DAY 01 Airport – Managua
Reception on arrival at the airport and transfer to the hotel in Managua.
DAY 02 Managua – Leon – Managua
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the colonial city of Leon, founded in 1610.
We will visit the Cathedral of Leon, one of the most beautiful temples of the continent and the biggest one in Central America, recently declared as a World Heritage Site. This temple is the resting place of great Nicaraguans like Ruben Dario and Salomon de la Selva.
Then we will visit Ortiz Gurdian Art Gallery where you will find an interesting collection that includes works from noted Nicaraguan artists as well as renowned international artists like Picasso, Chagall, Miró; and Latin American masters like Diego Rivera, Rufino Tamayo, Fernando Botero and Roberto Matta.
We will also go to Ruben Dario Museum, located in the house where the great poet lived for 14 years.
Transfer back to Managua in the afternoon.
DAY 03 Managua – Masaya – Granada
Breakfast at the hotel. Sightseeing tour of Managua. We’ll visit the historic center where we’ll find important sites like the Central Park, the ruins of the Cathedral of Santiago, the National Palace and the National Theater Ruben Dario.
We will continue to Granada. On our way we’ll visit Masaya Volcano National Park where we can go near the edge of an active crater by vehicle in a paved road.
Finally, we’ll arrive in Granada, founded in 1524 by conquistador Hernández de Cordoba, is the oldest city in the western hemisphere of the Americas.
We’ll visit the museum at San Francisco Convent, with its vast exposition of pre-Columbian statutes and pottery. You will also have the chance to enjoy a great panoramic view of the city from the bell tower of La Merced Church.
DAY 04 Granada – Catarina – Apoyo – Granada
Breakfast at the hotel. We will start the day with a boat tour of Granada’s famous Isletas, an archipelago of more than 360 islets formed by an ancient volcanic explosion, just off the shore of Lake Cocibolca. While you listen to your guide’s commentary about the history of Lake Cocibolca, admire views of Mombacho Volcano and keep an eye out for native birds like tanagers, hawks, jays and warblers.
We will continue to Catarina, a popular artisan’s town that stands out for the gardens with ornamental plants and for its incredible viewpoint from where you can see Apoyo Lagoon, Mombacho Volcano and Granada.
Afterwards, we will continue to Apoyo lagoon, an ancient crater lake located in the dry tropical forest of Nicaragua, which is home to Howler monkeys and a variety of tropical birds. Here you can swim or kayak on the pristine waters of the lagoon. Whatever you choose, there is no doubt you will enjoy the tranquility of a very special place. Transfer back to Granada at the end of the day.
DAY 05 Granada – Peñas Blancas – Guanacaste
Breakfast in the hotel. Transfer to Peñas Blancas border. After the migration process our local partner will be waiting to welcome you to Costa Rica to continue to Guanacaste.
The Northern Pacific Region of Costa Rica, composed mainly of the province of Guanacaste, is full of beauty and beaches with varied textures and colorful sand. This region offers many attractions, making this one of the most visited destinations in Costa Rica. Check-in and time at leisure.
DAY 06 Guanacaste – La Fortuna
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning regular transfer towards the north to the plains of San Carlos. You’ll go through picturesque villages and agriculture lands. In the town of La Fortuna is the beautiful Arenal Volcano.
DAY 07 La Fortuna
Breakfast at the hotel. Experience the peacefulness of the forest traveling on the Peñas Blancas River with the opportunity to observe many different animals such as monkeys, sloth, iguanas, tortoises, crocodiles and numerous bird species. The boat doesn’t use a motor so that you can enjoy the sounds of nature as you paddle down the river offering you the best opportunity to take photos.
In the afternoon, we’ll take the Arenal Volcano half-day tour. The walk begins in an area near the south west sector of the volcano; the trail will lead us through a private mountainous reserve. It is possible to observe a great variety of plants, wildlife and magnificent lava rock formations. The route on the trail is approximately 2 ½ hours.
DAY 08 La Fortuna – San José
Breakfast at the hotel. We’ll depart from the hotel at 07.30 am. On our way to San José, we’ll visit La Paz Waterfall Gardens, an animal sanctuary and private reserve of wildlife with more than 100 species of animals and environmental education programs. After lunch, we’ll continue to San José.
DAY 09 San José
Breakfast at the hotel. We’ll do a city tour that will immerse you in the rich Costa Rican culture and history by experiencing the beautiful museums and historical sites of San José. It begins with an orientation and drive through the beautiful Sabana Park. Next, we will take a walking tour through the historic National Theater. Completed in 1897, the theater is a masterpiece in art and architecture. Afterwards we will visit one of the many unique museums of Costa Rica, the Gold Museum.
DAY 10 San José – Airport
Transfer to Juan Santamaría International Airport according to your flight’s departure time. We recommend being at the airport 03 hours earlier.
