Itinerary
Day 1: Managua
Greeting to your arrival at the airport. Check in at the Hotel.
Day 2: Managua – León
Transfer from Managua to Colonial City León. During this tour around the city you will discover why Leon is the historical, cultural and religious capital of Nicaragua. You will have the opportunity to see the biggest cathedral of Central America and enjoy its rooftop view over the Maribios Volcanic Chain.
During the tour we will pass by the numerous buildings in colonial style (amongst which is the first university of Nicaragua). We will also visit Ruben Dario's Museum, the Art Centre of Ortiz Guardian Foundation and the churches of La Merced, La Recoleccion and Subtiava.
Day 3: León – Cerro Negro
If you are an adventurous person that is looking for something different, volcano boarding at Cerro Negro volcano is a great opportunity for you. It’s an easy climb which takes approximately an hour and a half, with rest stop along the way.
Once on top we will provide you with protective equipment and do a small demonstration. Going down is a lot easier, and fun! It can take thirty minutes or less-- it depends on your courage and technique.
Days 4 and 5: León – Momotombo volcano- León
Momotombo is considered the most impressive and representative volcano of Nicaragua, with 1297 meters in altitude. The geothermal plant of Momotombo produces about 10% of Nicaragua electrical power.
We start climbing the volcano at approximately 3:00 PM, getting to the camping area at sunset. We then continue very early the next day, finishing at approximately 2:00 PM. From the top we have great views, including the crater itself, the neighboring volcanoes and Lake Managua.
Day 6: León - El Hoyo volcano - Managua
This is a kind of Hawaiian volcano with 1088 meters in altitude it has two inactive round craters at the top and active fumaroles that show us its activity. This is a moderate hike consisting in going in a car through the country side, on a dirt road and along the volcanic change of Los Maribios. Then we keep going up by horse and finally by foot. As soon as we start going up we have great views of the tiger lagoon Asososca volcano, Leon city, as well as the Lake of Managua, and the farming lands. Transfer to Managua.
Day 7: Managua - Airport
Transfer to the airport to catch your flight out
